You were never 'just a pet' to us, Bijou. You were part of the family. I can still see your nails clicking on the floor and begging at meals as clearly as if it happened yesterday. We had many years together, but they still do not feel like enough.
I miss the version of home that had you in it. Not only the big memories, but the uneventful evenings and the days when nothing special happened at all. Those are the ones I understand differently now. Losing you hurt because loving you became such an ordinary part of life.
